The Boys and Girls Club of Greater Lowell includes the renovation and addition to an existing outdated facility. Located within close proximity to downtown Lowell, the new club will include 65,000 sq ft of space. The new design makes a strong connection with the adjacent Clemente Park and the National Historic Park Canal Parkway.
CLOVERFIELD MIXED-USE
SANTA MONICA, CA
The Cloverfield mixed-use development is an organic extension of its context and sits at the precipice of two vibrant Santa Monica streets – Broadway and Cloverfield. Corrugated metal and walnut panels create a rich patchwork of tone and texture. The two street facades reach a dramatic confluence at the corner where the building opens to reveal a deep chasm of brightly colored core. This break in rhythm adds tempo to the elevation and fills the interior courtyard with Californian sun. The project consists of 34 market rate and affordable units. Two levels of parking occupy space below grade whilst chiseled planes of concrete frame expansively glazed retail space on ground level.
The Cloverfield building is heavy and grounded. Concrete piers of rusticated board-formed concrete comprise the base with integral planters along the street. A dark, rich material palette is used, that includes, board-formed reinforced concrete, corrugated metal, louvered metal screens, and charcoal integral smooth plaster. The corner of the building is celebrated with a monolithic, sculptural form that marks the busy intersection. The iconic volume hovers over the outdoor space below. Sheathed in vertical slats the piece is split and open to the sky.
